September 2013
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgivings should be made for everyone…
- 1 Timothy 2:1
It is with
great joy that I write this message while sitting in my new office here at
11093 Bandera Road. The path to this space has been incredible and I am
grateful to everyone who has been a part of the journey.
One of the
things about spending four years finding land, buying land, planning land, and
building on that land is that it can feel that the church is all about building
something. And this is true, we are building something, but it is much greater
than anything that human hands can construct.
With this
‘building something” in mind, we are turning our hearts toward a seven-week
preaching series on Sunday, September 15, based on Paul’s first and second letters to Timothy. The title
of this series is, This is your
God’s Church! We are going to spend
these weeks looking at some of the basic teachings that Paul offered Timothy as
this young evangelist set out to start new worshipping communities to the glory
of God. Some of Paul’s teachings we will agree with while others will sit hard
in the pits of our bellies. This tension is the fun that Paul offers us.
A big part of
this teaching will the church retreat October 18-20, as Greg Richards, College
Missioner for the Diocese of West Texas, leads us in a conversation about
serving God out in the world. There will also be a lot of opportunities to come
together as a community throughout the whole weekend. More information can be found on our website.
At the end of
this month, September 28th at 2:30 pm, the Diocese will come
together to consecrate this new Sacred Space and celebrate this gift from which
we are each sent out into God’s world as missionaries. Then, on Sunday, September 29th,
we will have Homecoming Sunday as we invite everyone (past, present, and future
members) to come together and give thanks for this worshipping community.
I give thanks
for you and I pray for you and the ministry to which God has called you.
In the Family,
Jason
